Promotion of Use of Sites

In October 2004, the Japan-US Joint Committee agreed on a return policy for six U.S. military facilities in the city. The return of the Koshiba oil storage facility in December 2005, the Tomioka Warehouse Area in May 2009, and the Fukaya Communication Office in June 2014.
In city, we set up "Yokohama-shi return facility ruins use project" by city management responsibility position in October, 2004 and compiled examination contents up to that point as "the first report" in March, 2005 .
In June 2005, we set up the "Yokohama City Return Facility Ruins Use Concept Exploratory Committee" with academics and others, and in December of the same year, we received "Proposal on the Use of the Site of Return Facility". Based on the opinions of many citizens, we formulated the "U.S. Army Facility Return Site Use Guidelines" in June 2006. After that, in March 2007, the action policy for the realization of the guidelines was compiled as the "Yokohama City U.S. Army Facility Return Site Use Action Plan" (revised in March 2011).
Based on these guidelines and action plans, Motoichi will steadily promote the early return of U.S. military facilities and the use of the site.
