Early return and reduction of burden from 1989
Last Updated March 19, 2024
Return of Yokohama Refrigerated Warehouse and Kanagawa Milk Plant
Yokohama refrigerated warehouse was located in Minato Mirai 21 Shinko district.
In 1989, when the Yokohama Expo was held to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the opening of the municipal administration, the conditions for returning the Kanagawa Milk Plant and the Yokohama Refrigerated Warehouse, which had hindered the Minato Mirai 21 business, were shown, and both facilities were later returned by providing an alternative warehouse to Yokohama North Dock.

In Negishi residential areas, the impact of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States caused severe restrictions on traffic within facilities and citizen use, resulting in an increase in burden on local residents.

Construction of U.S. Army Family Residence
Regarding the construction of houses in the Ikego residential area and the Navy auxiliary facilities in Yokohama city area, agreement was reached in October 2004, and the basic layout plan was drafted in August 2006, and the basic concept was presented by the government in June 2007. In response to this, the city requested consideration for the natural environment and the implementation of surrounding environmental measures.
In September 2010, discussions were held on the reexamination of the number of housing units, etc., based on the fact that more than five years have passed since the agreement in 2004, the relocation of the Negishi residential area. It was agreed to build about 400 family houses, etc., and in July 2011, a basic layout plan was proposed by the government in which the number of houses, was about 400, to 385.
In response, Motoichi made a request to the country in November 2011, based on the request made in 2006 and 2007, the city made a request to the country for the basic placement plan again.
At the Japan-U.S. Joint Committee in November 2018, it was agreed to suspend construction of family housing.

Aiming at maintenance as a city park, we are working on the use of the former Koshiba oil storage facility.
Regarding facilities for which partial return was agreed in 2004, in 2005, Japan and the United States agreed to return the entire land area (53 hectares) of the Koshiba Oil Storage Facility and a part of the restricted water area. A large-scale return has been realized since the Yokohama Seaside Residential Area (71 hectares) in 1982.
In 2009, the 150th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama's opening, the Tomioka Warehouse district (2.9 hectares) was returned. In addition to the facilities subject to the Japan-US agreement, a part of the Yokohama North Dock (2.7 hectares) was returned.
