Postwar requisition and return of urban areas (1945 to 1961)

The status of requisition by the Allied Forces who were stationed after World War II in 1945. Introducing the status of exercise for requisition in Yokohama City.

Progress of Urbanization and Base Problems (1962 to 1989)

The burden on civil life due to the presence of a base during the high growth period from the late 1930s. In addition, we will introduce incidents, accidents, noise problems, etc.

Early return and reduction of burden (from 1989)

Return of Yokohama Refrigerated Warehouse, Kanagawa Milk Plant, and construction of a US military family residence by the government agreed in 2004. In addition, we will introduce the return of the Koshiba oil storage facility, which is a large-scale return for the first time in a quarter century.

Progress of the Japan-U.S.-Japan talks from 2003 to 2016

Beginning in 2003, this section introduces the contents of discussions on the reorganization of US Army facilities and areas in Japan in Kanagawa Prefecture, which were agreed by the Japan-US Joint Committee in October 2004.

About housing construction by the government

At the Japan-US Joint Committee in October 2004, it was agreed on the construction of houses in the Ikego residential area and the Navy auxiliary facility (Yokohama city area).
In addition, at the Japan-US Joint Committee in November 2018, the construction of houses in the Ikego residential area and the Navy auxiliary facility (Yokohama city area) was canceled by the agreement of both parties. I would like to introduce the progress in the meantime.

The requisition of Yokohama began with the occupation of the Allied Forces in August 1945.
A wide range of requisitions, including port facilities and central city areas, delayed the reconstruction and reconstruction of Yokohama.
Until now, we have promoted initiatives for return as an important issue of municipal administration, realized many returns, and utilized the ruins in town development in Yokohama. This history is introduced intermingling the occupation period in the late 20s, around 1958, when the 100th anniversary of the opening of the port was held, and the 1940s.
