The 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7/2019)

What is the African Development Conference?

This is an international conference on the theme of African development led by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the African Union Commission (AUC). Following the 4th meeting in 2008 and the 5th meeting in 2013, the 7th meeting was held in Yokohama from August 28 to 30, 2019.

Outline of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development

  • Schedule From Wednesday, August 28, 2019 to Friday, 30th
  • Venue Pacifico-yokohama
  • More than 10,000 participants, including 53 African countries, 52 development partner countries, 108 international and regional organizations, as well as representatives of civil society such as the private sector and NGOs, including 42 leaders.
  • Theme "Let's breakthrough in Africa! People, technology, and innovation."

After discussions at the closing ceremony held on 30th, the "Yokohama Declaration 2019" was adopted, and "Yokohama Action Plan 2019" was announced as an attached document.

Yokohama City's Initiatives for the Conference

The theme of Yokohama City's initiatives for the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development is "Africa and Yokohama, with overflowing power to the future."
There are three directions for our efforts.

  • Expansion of International Technical Cooperation
  • Strengthening business support and promoting the active participation of women
  • Enhancement of next-generation upbringing and citizen exchange

We will post a collection of holding records, "Record of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Yokohama", which summarizes the results of projects that Yokohama City worked on.

The report of the symposium held as the official side event of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development.
