Japan's first cow spinal cord inhalation removal device (Yokohama safety tea)

Last Updated October 1, 2018

People working at the Yokohama Meat Market always hope that the meat they produce will be pleased by citizens and consumers and consumers, and that they can eat with peace of mind.
Under such circumstances, BSE (Bovine spongiform encephalopathy) occurred in September 2001, and BSE screening tests for all cattle began on October 18 of the same year.
In addition to BSE screening tests, double and triple BSE measures were taken during slaughter removal work. One of them is "removing spinal cord removal". This involves extracting the spinal cord, which is said to be prone to accumulate abnormal prions, from the spine of all cattle in advance at the slaughter stage regardless of infection, so that it does not come into contact with the edible meat.
But at that time there was no method or equipment at that time how to extract it. Therefore, slaughter workers, sanitary inspectors, machine personnel, etc. gathered to develop the first cow spinal cord inhalation removal device (Yokohama Safety) after trial and error (completed in November 2001). In response to inquiries from other markets, 74 units have sold 74 units throughout Japan to date.
This device has a strong desire for citizens and consumers to eat safe meat with peace of mind.
