Yokohama Market 21st Century Declaration
Last Updated February 2, 2019
Our Yokohama market was born in 1931 in Yamauchi-cho, Kanagawa-ku, as the first central wholesale market in eastern Japan. The meat market opened in 1959 and the southern market opened in 1973, and has developed as a supply base for fresh food and other products. In 2001, the year of the start of the 21st century, we were able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the home, thanks to many people.
We pay tribute to our predecessors and seniors who have overcome many challenges of the times and times for 70 years, and have nurtured this Yokohama market greatly and finely. Furthermore, in order to stabilize the eating habits of Yokohama citizens and develop food culture, producers and shippers who have been instrumental in the production of fresh foods every day, and consumers have been provided with them. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the market users.
The situation surrounding the Central Wholesale Market is undergoing drastic changes. The production area, consumer needs, and distribution structure have changed significantly. Of course, we also have to change.
The Central Wholesale Market plays a key role in the distribution of fresh foods, etc., and I am convinced that it will not change in the future. We believe that the high waves of change standing in front of us can be overcome with the irreplaceable experience of 70 years and the spirit of unwavering reform.
We, the home, the southern market and the meat market, are determined to unite here and aim for the next goal in order to solidify the Yokohama market in the 21st century with creativity and ingenuity.
The “fresh market” that delivers safety and security
1. Trust Markets open to consumers and producers
1. Efficient and easy-to-use information market
“Environmental Conservation Market,” which appreciates the blessings of the earth and the ocean.
1. “Food Culture Dissemination Market” that contributes to rich food culture
To achieve this goal, we will steadily implement all kinds of initiatives under the slogan "Yokohama Market, which appreciates consumers and producers and fosters trust," and builds a vibrant 21st century Yokohama market.
