Stove fires have a high death rate!

There are various types of stoves, such as oil stoves, electric stoves, gas stoves, and oil fan heaters, but the characteristic of stove fires is that once a fire is fired, the damage is likely to be greater.
In Yokohama City, 249 stove fires have occurred in the past 10 years (2013-2022), killing 30 precious lives.
This is a very high percentage compared to the death rate due to other fire causes.

Electric stoves are safe⁉

Looking at the progress of the stove fire, it can be seen that there are many cases where combustibles come into contact with the electric stove and ignite.
Electric stoves are often thought to be easy and safe because they do not require fuel such as kerosene and do not require ventilation, but improper use may cause a fire.
When using the stove, check how to use it again and use it properly!

This is the rate of fires in electric stoves and other stoves.

What's on fire?

Laundry

<Case 1> The laundry that had been dried near the stove fell into the stove, and a fire broke out after a certain period of time.
※Even if the stove and the ignition are not in contact, heat from the stove can cause a fire.

Points to prevent fire

Always keep the area around the stove clean and never hang laundry on or near the stove.

Futon

<Case 2> I fell asleep with the stove on, and when I turned over, a hanging tongue touches the stove and fires.
※Most fires in which futons come into contact with stoves are generated from electric stoves.
※If a futon is ignited, the probability of casualties is also very high.

Points to prevent fire

Be sure to turn off the switch and remove the plug from the outlet when you go to bed or leave the place.

Others

Oils such as kerosene

<Case 3> Refueled the cartridge tank with the stove attached, and the lid closed was incomplete, so the lid came off, causing kerosene to the combustion cylinder and a fire broke out.
<Case 4> Inadvertently refueling gasoline into the cartridge tank of the oil fan heater and ignition.
After that, the internal pressure of the cartridge tank mixed with gasoline increased, gasoline overflowed, igniting the flame of the oil fan heater itself, and a fire broke out.

Points to prevent fire

・ Be sure to extinguish the stove when refueling, and make sure that the lid is tightly closed after refueling.
・ When refueling, check the type of fuel described in the instruction manual etc.

Flammable gas such as spray cans

<Case 5> Because a cockroaches near the stove were sprayed with a insecticide spray, the radiated gas ignited the fire of the oil stove and burned up, igniting objects nearby.
<Case 6> The hair spray placed in front of the oil fan heater was heated by warm air and burst. At that time, the gas of the ruptured hair spray ignites the flame of the fan heater.

Points to prevent fire

・ When using spray cans, etc., stay away from the stove and provide sufficient ventilation.
・ Do not place spray cans near the stove.
