Electric fire

Last Updated September 20, 2024

There are many fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.

Electric fires include many fires caused by lithium-ion batteries, which have been rapidly spreading in recent years.
In particular, in fiscal 2024, as of September 15, 28 cases have already occurred, an increase of 5 cases compared to the average over the past three years.

[Fire Case 1]
The explosion sounded during bedtime, and when I checked the room, I found smoke was generated from the charged mobile battery.
I felt danger, so I immediately wrapped it in a towel and threw it down to the garden. After exploding again, the fire was extinguished naturally.
As a result of the investigation, it is probable that the fire was ignited due to the short circuit of the internal wire.

[Fire Case 2]
He found smoke coming out of the mobile battery in the luggage he had placed under his seat on the go, and succeeded in extinguishing the fire with drinking water he had.
As a result of the investigation, it is probable that the lithium-ion battery was short-circuted inside, causing a fever and exploded, causing a fire.

[Fire Case 3]
When a fire alarm was issued, I checked the room and found smoke.
As a result of the investigation, it is probable that the battery was ignited from the overcharged lithium-ion battery due to the continued charging of the mobile battery for about a week.

How to dispose of a mobile battery that is no longer needed

Manufacturers and importers are obliged to voluntarily collect and recycle small rechargeable batteries, such as mobile batteries, and cannot be sent to collection sites.
If it is no longer needed, refer to <How to Dispose of Lithium-ion Battery> and dispose of it correctly.

Points to prevent electric fires

①Do not put a load on the electrical cord

If you continue to use it with octopus foot wiring, underneath furniture, or bundled, the inside may break down and cause a fire.

Accidental use of electrical cords

②Be careful about the water of the outlet plug!

The dust accumulated in the plug can absorb moisture such as moisture, which can lead to fire.
Do not use wet rags or disinfecting sprays, and clean them regularly with a dry cloth.
