Preparation for typhoon and heavy rain

Last Updated September 10, 2021

Check 1. Daily Preparation ~ Let's prepare in case of emergency~

Let's check your home and shelter on the hazard map!

Care should be taken when considering evacuation routes

  • Check multiple evacuation routes so that you can evacuate to two or more evacuation centers.
  • Avoid roads that may be closed due to flooding due to heavy rain or landslides.

Map

Let's check the items to be taken out during evacuation!

  • Prepare items to be taken out during evacuation on a daily basis so that you can take them out immediately.
  • The items to be taken out should be kept to a minimum. (Radio, drinking water, flashlights, pharmaceuticals, baby products, etc.)

Exhibits

Let's work together to protect our town!

  • In the event of an emergency, cherish your relationship with your neighbors on a daily basis so that you can help each other.
  • Let's create a system that can cooperate in the community to protect the safety of people who have difficulty responding flexibly, such as evacuation behavior in the event of a disaster due to disability or elderly people.
  • Let's talk about the cooperation system in the event of a disaster for nearby social welfare facilities in the area on a daily basis.
  • Let's hold disaster drill, evacuation drill and lectures to acquire knowledge about disaster prevention.
  • When evacuation warning comes out, call out to the neighborhood and take the initiative in evacuating.

Help each other

Check 2. When heavy rain comes ~ Let's pay attention to this point~

Let's try to gather information frequently on your own!

Please check the information frequently on the Japan Meteorological Agency website and the Yokohama City website.

Be especially careful when landslide disaster alert information comes out.
About earth and sand disaster caution information, this (JMA homepage) (outside site)

Information collection

Let's pay attention to the cliff!

A precursor to a landslide

  • Pebbles fall from the cliff.
  • New spring water is generated on the slope.
  • There is a turbidity of the spring water.
  • There is a crack in the slope.

A precursor

If any of the above precursory phenomena occur, take evacuation actions as soon as possible.

In addition, there may be cases where there is no time between the occurrence of a precursor phenomenon to the occurrence of a landslide, or there is no precursor phenomenon.
If you feel danger, take evacuation actions as soon as possible.

Don't overdo it and try to evacuate safely!

When evacuating, wear easy-to-move clothes and try to act with two or more people.
If the surroundings are dark and flooding has already begun, do not forcibly go outside and stay in a high place where you can secure safety, such as the second floor of your home.

Evacuation by two or more people

2nd floor or higher

Let's evacuate on a safe route!

  • When evacuating, avoid roads along rivers, cliffs, and underground roads.
  • The gutters and manhole covers on the road may be off due to heavy rain, so be careful and stay away.

Check 3. When evacuation information comes out-Evacuation action to save lives-

The name of the evacuation information has been partially changed.

Following the damage of Typhoon No. 19 in 2019, the Cabinet Office considered storm and flood damage countermeasures, and the revised "Basic Law on Disaster Countermeasures" was enforced on May 20, 2021, and the "Evacuation Information Name" at the alert level was changed. I will let you know.

voluntary evacuation immediately without waiting for evacuation warning.

Based on the lessons learned from Typhoon No. 18 in October 2014, Yokohama City extracted cliffs that may cause significant damage to houses in the event of a landslide. We have decided to issue "evacuation warning" with the announcement of "earth and sand disaster warning information".
It is not safe in areas where the evacuation warning is not provided. In the event of a heavy rain or typhoon, pay attention to disaster prevention information and take evacuation actions as soon as possible at your own discretion.
