Outline

It is a large and small ema and votive amount that were dedicated to Shinfukuji Temple located in Eda-cho, Aoba-ku, and was placed indoors. Eda was a bustling post town on the Oyama Kaido in the early modern era, and it was also a distribution area for supplies in nearby rural areas. The name Shinfukuji was renamed during the Taisho years, and before that it was simply called Kannondo. Kannondo gathered religions not only from the residents of Eda, but also from nearby villages, and as a result, many ema was dedicated. There are many temples and shrines along the Oyama Kaido, but there are few places where many ema remains, and it is valuable.
The oldest ema that has been left today is from Kansei 12 (1800), and there are three ema of the same year. Including this, there are 12 ema with the era of the early modern era and 16 ema describing the era after the Meiji era, of which two ema dedicated to Showa 63 (1988). It indicates that you are living in the present age.
Ema can be broadly divided into large ema and small ema. Large ema includes works of art, but 115 small ema are attracting attention as folklore materials. Small ema is thought to have been dedicated by individuals to realize their earnest desires, and ema depicting villagers worship in front of Buddha and ema depicting horses themselves stand out. In addition to ema, there is also a votive amount including the date of Holy Calendar 10 (1760), flat, arithmetic amount, and a sutra of the dedication in 1996, and a rare votive. Includes straw snake. Currently, 74 items, mainly large ema, are displayed in the main hall of Shinfukuji Temple, and the rest are stored in the Yokohama City History Museum.
A detailed survey of these ema was conducted by the City of Yokohama, Board of Education Secretariat Shinfukuji Ema Research Team in 1997, and the results were published in the Yokohama City Cultural Properties Survey Report.
