Doshi Water Source Forest Volunteer Project
Last updated March 15, 2024
Yokohama City owns a watershed forest in Doshi Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, and has been systematically maintaining and managing it for more than 100 years.
However, some privately owned forests, which account for about 60% of the area of Doshi Village, are not well managed due to labor shortages, etc., and there is a concern that the water source recharge function (function that stores, purify, and mitigate floods) may decline. There are forests.
In order to regenerate the water source recharge function of forests, Water Works Bureau has been working with citizen volunteers to develop private forests since fiscal 2004.
For the NPO Humanitarian Shir Forest Volunteer Association and other citizen volunteer groups, thin conifers such as cedar and cypress are thinned in private forests in Doshi Village, and broad-leaved forests with high water retention functions and coniferous mixed forests with high water retention functions (Shinkokon Korin) ) ※We support activities in conservation, a water source forest.
※Forests in which broadleaf trees with high water retention function are mixed in coniferous forests
