Provision of drinking water at home and at work

Last Updated October 18, 2024

"Water" is the most important thing to maintain human life. The Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011 caused enormous damage to various places, mainly in the Tohoku region, and about 2.57 million units were cut off. In addition, in the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, about 140,000 houses were cut off in Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, and the importance of preparing drinking water was renewed throughout Japan. It became clear.
In preparation for disasters, Water Works Bureau regularly asks households and companies to store 3 liters of drinking water per day and 9 liters of drinking water for three days.
※In high-rise houses that pressurize with a water supply pump or pass through a water receiving tank, water may not come out if the building becomes a power outage.

    Wise stockpiling (rolling stock method)

The rolling stock method is a method of always stocking a certain amount by buying a little more drinking water, etc., and buying a new amount as much as you use it.

Please pay attention to the following points when storing them.

<How to store water and notes>

    • Put water to the mouth in a clean and lid-filled plastic container, etc., and make it full.
    • Boiling or passing through a water purifier may lose the effect of chlorine, so please store the tap water as it is in a container.
    • Store in a cool place without direct sunlight, such as a refrigerator. (It can be stored for about 1 week in winter and 3 days in summer.) ※Please replace the water around this period.
    • The standard of stockpiling is 3 liters per person per day for 3 days for drinking water.

Condominiums and high-rise buildings are expected to make it difficult to transport water during power outages.

In many middle- and high-rise buildings, water is sent to each house by a power-powered pump, so water may be cut off during a power outage.
Also, if the elevator cannot be used due to a power outage, it is expected that it will be difficult to transport water. Stock up on drinking water on a daily basis in preparation for a power outage! !
