In 1887, Japan's first modern water supply was born in Yokohama.
At the time of its founding, the water transmission route was from Mitsui-mura, Tsukui-gun (now Midori-ku, Sagamihara-shi) at the confluence of the Sagami River and the Doshi River, where the water was taken from Mitsui Village, Tsukui-gun (now Midori-ku, Sagamihara City) to Nogeyama Water Purification Plant (now Nogeyama Reservoir). It was about 44km.
Sagamihara-shi, Yamato-shi, Machida-shi and Yokohama-shi have concluded agreement, and are maintained as green paths and promenades, respectively.
Along the road, a signboard explaining the outline of the water supply facilities in an easy-to-understand manner was set up in 2007 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the modern water supply. There are 26 locations on the water supply tracks at the time of its founding.
Why don't you think about important water while walking along green paths and promenades on holidays?
