About leptspira disease
Leptospirosis (leptospirosis) is a zoonotic bacteria (spiroheta) infection caused by pathogenic reptospira infection.
Last Updated August 28, 2024
Cartered animals and routes of transmission
Many wild animals, livestock (such as cattle, horses and pigs), and pets (such as dogs and cats) are listed as bacterial animals, including rodents.
The pathogenic reptospillar is carried in the kidneys of carriers (mainly rats, etc.) and discharged into the urine. It is transmitted by direct contact with water, soil, or urine contaminated by bacterial urine. There are also reports of oral infections caused by eating and drinking contaminated water and food.
Dog symptoms
You have fever, anorexia, loss of energy, vomiting, and dehydration.
In severe conditions, mucosal tumor formation (rhizomes and tongue bleeding / necrosis), mucosal congestion, vineitis, jaundice, renal dysfunction, and liver dysfunction are seen.
To the owner of the dog
In Kanagawa Prefecture, infection is reported every year.
If you want your dog to play in a mountain or river, or if you are expected to come into contact with a mouse, consider vaccination. (For vaccinations, please consult your veterinary clinic.)
Vaccinations cannot prevent 100% of infection, so be careful, and consult your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms.
