History of the System

Grants to local recyclables collection began in 1983.
This section explains the background of the grant and changes in the amount collected.

In response to the growing awareness of garbage reduction and recycling, we decided to focus on the voluntary collection of local organizations and resource recovery companies.

Voluntary collection by local communities and suppliers

At that time, officers such as Neighborhood Association Neighborhood Associations were pulling their rear cars to collect recyclables.
After the start of the subsidy, citizens, businesses, and the government play their respective roles and greatly contribute to waste reduction and recycling.

State cooperation

In 1983, Yokohama City started a subsidy program for registered organizations.
Initially, it started with a subsidy for goods (rear cars), and in 1989 it was changed to a flat-rate incentive grant.
From 1990, a subsidy of 3 yen will be issued according to the amount collected, and it is up to the present day.
In addition, since 1993, we have also issued incentives to collection companies according to the amount collected.
