A new fishway in Katabira River!
Last Updated September 11, 2018
Ayu is now able to go up upstream!
In order to improve the upstream environment for ayu and other fish in Katabira River, a fishway was installed at the head of Tsurumine Hashimoto-ryu (completed in June 2017).
As a result, Ayu, which had been stagnant downstream of the head, due to a drop of about 1.5m before installation, can now be confirmed even upstream of the head work.
※What is the difference?
The head work (floor stopper, floor fixing, protective work) is a structure that prevents river scouring and maintaining the longitudinal and cross-sectional shape of the river.
Due to the head, the slope of the river is gentle, and the rapid flow during the flood is eased. Many rivers managed by Yokohama City have steep slopes, so in many cases, head works are set up to prevent river scouring.
