How is river pollution caused by domestic wastewater?
You can see that when domestic wastewater flows into the river, it pollutes the river water. What effect does domestic wastewater affect the river?
Last update date October 4, 2023
When domestic wastewater flows directly into the river, the pollutants such as organic matter and detergents increase.
If this exceeds natural purification capacity, the dirt will remain undeveloped.
If this condition persists, bacteria and microorganisms increase their activity while consuming oxygen in the water, resulting in anaerobic (oxygen free).
Then, the environment becomes difficult for aquatic organisms such as fish, to inhabit, and the purification capacity is weakened.
On the other hand, bacteria that prefer anaerobic water can cause organic matter to rot, causing methane and hydrogen sulfide that emits bad smell.
