2023 "Summer Vacation Parent and Child Sewer Class"

In Nambu Wastewater Treatment Plant, we conducted tours of Nambu Wastewater Treatment Plant and Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center with the aim of encouraging parents and children to deepen their understanding of sewerage systems and environmental knowledge.

• Date and time: From Friday, August 18, 2023 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm (local dissolution)
• Number of participants: 18 students (8 adults, 9 elementary school students, 1 preschool child)
• Participation fee: Free of charge
• Participation Conditions: Elementary school students and their families living or studying in Yokohama City (elementary school students are not allowed)

On the day, children and their families who were blessed with good weather and their families participated.

In Nambu Wastewater Treatment Plant, they deepened their understanding of the mechanism and role of sewerage through staff explanations and tours of facilities. In addition, looking at the state of the water in each process that was actually sampled, they observed how the water was gradually purified and the microorganisms that were active in water treatment were observed with a microscope.

During the tour of the water treatment facility, they saw how the water was actually cleaned at the water reclamation center and how the water was returned naturally.

After that, we traveled by bus to see Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center.

In this sewer classroom, we think that we could have deepened understanding about sewer of Yokohama-shi while having fun with parent and child.
We hope that this "Summer Sewer Class for Parents and Children" will help families enjoy fun memories of summer vacation and free study during the summer vacation.
This sewer class is held every year during the summer vacation of elementary school. We look forward to your participation next year.
