Crow Damage and Response
Last update date April 1, 2024
Intimidation and attack by crows
During the breeding season of crows (spring to early summer), parent glass may threaten or attack people passing near nests or nesting chicks (nesting chicks) to protect eggs and chicks.
In that case, there are the following methods (click to go to the detailed description).
- 1 Keep away from the place (nest or chick)
- 2 The crow protects the back of the head to attack from behind.
- 3 Corresponding to the nest that causes the nest (consult with the manager of the place where the nest is located)
- 4 Request the city to collect the nesting bina that causes the problem
Crows gather (the garbage is destroyed)
Crows gather mainly due to kitchen garbage, which mostly feeds, and left unattended pet food. Eradication of crows is ineffective because if there is food, another crow will gather again.
If you have any problems, you can take the following actions (click to go to the detailed description).
- 1 Follow the manners of garbage disposal (use of scattering prevention nets, etc.)
- 2 Prevent the kitchen garbage from being seen outside the garbage bag
- 3 Do not feed (Do not leave pet food outdoors)
Responding to threats and attacks by crows
1 Keep away from the place (nest or chick)
- If you move away from nests and chicks, threats and attacks will stop.
- Crows attack people from behind, so let's leave the place without turning your back to the parent glass.
The crow takes the following threatening actions before attacking. Be careful of signs of intimidation so that you are not attacked.
- Prick the branches or squeak the beak
- Stop on a tree and screaming at a loud voice
- Fly overhead while squealing
2 The crow protects the back of the head to attack from behind.
- Crows kick the back of the head from behind and attack with their feet, so protecting the back of the head can prevent the attack. For this reason, protect your back head with a hat, bag, umbrella, etc.
3. Addressing nests that cause
It is best not to approach the nest, but if there are many traffic or it is difficult to detour, consult the owner or manager of the place where the nest is located (such as a tree).
Dealing with nests includes posting alert posters and removing nests. It is up to the owner or manager of the place to decide what to do.

(This alert poster alerts you that there is a crow's nest.)
4 Emergencyly request the city to collect and dispose of nesting bina that causes
If the chick immediately after nesting is near the ground, the parent glass may attack people approaching to protect the chick.
If the parent glass repeatedly threatens and attacks people and there is a risk of injury such as injury to people, chicks are urgently collected and disposed of in the city. Please refer to environmental activity business section (Phone: 045-671-3448).
The nesting vina looks the same as the parent glass, but is characterized by its red mouth.
I'm just tired and resting, so I'll move on my own after a while. If there is no threat or attack by the parent glass, please leave it alone.
Corresponding to the gathering of crows (ruined garbage)
1 Follow the manners of garbage disposal (use of scattering prevention nets, etc.)
Put it in a container with a lid or apply a net to cover the entire garbage.
When applying a net, place a weight such as a block on the edge of the net so that garbage cannot be pulled out from the gap.
Management of garbage collection place will have you have in each area.
2 Prevent the kitchen garbage from being seen outside the garbage bag
If measures are not taken with a container with a lid, cover the kitchen garbage with other garbage so that it cannot be seen from the outside of the garbage bag.
The crows come together when they see kitchen garbage from outside the bag to look for food with good eyes and rely on sight.
3 Do not feed (Do not leave pet food outdoors)
Feeding attracts many crows and causes many troubles such as feces damage and noise.
It is not desirable for crows because they rely on food that humans give will weaken their ability to live.
Pets and other food should be cleared as soon as you finish eating.
Measures in Yokohama City
All wild birds and beasts, including crows, cannot be caught without permission under the Wildlife Protection and Management Law. Therefore, it cannot be exterminated if crows are gathering due to poor manners of garbage disposal or simply because they are scared or noisy. In addition, even if the crows collected in the food (garbage), there is no effect because another crow will gather as long as there is food.
For this reason, Yokohama City has been working on separate collection and reduction of garbage, and has reduced the number of crows by taking measures against food (garbage). It is very important to protect the manners of garbage throughout the area, such as by utilizing the net to prevent the scattering of garbage (in the 2008 survey, the number of crows in the city is compared to 10 years ago It is about half, and the number has decreased further in the subsequent survey in 2013.)
In the event of a threat or attack, we conduct the following business as a countermeasure against damage.
- Collection of crow nesting vina
- Lending posters to alert crows (providing data)
