City temperature observation

Last update date April 1, 2024

The Institute of Environmental Science conducts temperature observations at multiple elementary schools in the city to ascertain the heat situation in the city, which has become hot due to global warming and the heat island phenomenon.
This page introduces the heat trends in the city, which is known in previous surveys.

For detailed observation results and past observation results, please see the Temperature Observation Results page.

Trends of heat in the city

There is a regional difference in the heat of the city!

As a result of previous surveys by the Institute of Environmental Sciences, it has been found that there are regional differences in the heat situation in the city, and that areas where hot weather is likely to be hot during the day and night are different.

  • The average temperature tends to be hot in the eastern part of the city, and in the western part of the city than in the eastern part of the city.
  • Midsummer days tend to be higher in the northeastern part of the city and in a part of the western part of the city. In particular, in 2023, it increased in the whole city except for a part of the southern part of the city.
  • The number of hot days tends to be higher in the northern and northeastern parts of the city, among areas where many midsummer days were observed.
  • Tropical nights tend to be higher in the eastern part of the city.

These trends are generally consistent with each year.

In addition, the guide to creating an environment that surpasses the heat using the Urban Environmental Climate Map states that winds blowing from the sea have the effect of suppressing the rise in temperature during the day, and green spaces have the effect of reducing nighttime temperature. I'm introducing
Depending on conditions such as the arrival time of the wind and the presence of green spaces, the areas where hot tends to be hot are different during the day and night.

Detailed observation results (please see here for past observations)
