About the Alien Biology Act (About Raccoon and Tiwan squirrel)

Alien Organisms Act (Act on the Prevention of Damage to Ecosystems by Specified Invasive Organisms, enacted on June 1, 2005)
Organisms that did not originally inhabit Japan and are imported as pets or food, or brought in attached to imported products, and have been imported into Japan from abroad beyond their original range of activity. It is called a creature. Some alien organisms are adapted to the Japanese climate, such as white clover (clover), which has been introduced as pastures, are adapted to the Japanese climate, but some are ecosystems such as raccoons and buses (largest bass and kochibas). Some are damaging crops.
The government has enacted the “Law Concerning the Prevention of Damage to Ecosystems by Specified Invasive Organisms” (Exotic Organisms Act), and designates organisms that damage ecosystems, etc. as “special alien organisms” to prevent damage. And decided to work on prevention of expansion.

3 Principles for Prevention of Alien Organisms
- (Do not allow invasive organisms that may adversely affect them into Japan)
- Do not throw away (do not throw away alien organisms in the field)
- Do not spread (exotic organisms already in the field do not spread to other areas)
After June 1, 2005, specific alien organisms can no longer be kept as pets.
Releasing specific alien organisms outdoors or carrying or releasing specific alien organisms caught outdoors to another place are also subject to legal penalties.
Raccoon
In Kanagawa Prefecture, it inhabits a lot around the Miura Peninsula, and the number of animals is increasing, mainly in the southern part of the city.
Yokohama City carries out control in cooperation with Kanagawa Prefecture and neighboring municipalities.
If a raccoon is damaged by a raccoon (such as preyed on a pond carp) in your home garden, or if you have invaded the ceiling or under the floor of your home, please refer to the Environmental Activities Business Division (Phone: 045-671-3448).

Squirrel (a variant of Kurihara squirrel)
