Last Updated October 1, 2024

In Yokohama city, there have been cases where the ward office tax staff asks the employer and family structure by telephone and fake e-mail, and suspicious cases of visiting homes and offices by saying, "I want you to pay taxes." I am.
In addition, damage has been caused by "wire fraud", such as pretending to be tax officials, operating automatic teller machines (ATMs), and transferring funds.

Suspicious Short Messages from the National Tax Agency

At present, a case has been found in which short messages and e-mails from the NTA are directed to fake websites impersonating the NTA website. The NTA (including the National Taxation Bureau and tax office) does not send short messages. If you receive a suspicious short message or e-mail, or if you find a site that uses the NTA website, access may cause damage, so be careful not to access it. .
The NTA website (outside site) address is https://www.nta.go.jp/. When using the NTA website, be sure to check the address field of the browser.

Response in case of suspicious contact

If you feel suspicious of an inquiry from a ward office or a person who claims to be a Finance Bureau tax officer, please confirm your name and affiliation, hang up once and check with the Tax Division of the ward office or the chief tax department of the Finance Bureau.

  • When tax officials make inquiries to taxpayers over the phone, in principle, they will check the contents based on the tax return submitted, etc., and will not directly contact the employer or family structure. In particular, we have sent a letter to the ward office or Finance Bureau to make inquiries about the transfer account of the refund. Similarly, in Yokohama City, important notices are provided in writing, so we will not send them by e-mail.
  • We do not require the operation of an automatic teller machine (ATM) to receive refunds.
  • We don't ask you toll-free or contact your mobile phone.
  • There is no need to specify a financial institution account and request a transfer to pay the city tax.
