Yokohama Science Frontier High School

Yokohama City opened Yokohama Science Frontier High School, a full-time science and mathematics department, in April 2009, celebrating its 150th anniversary and the 120th anniversary of municipal administration. With the aim of fostering human beings who are widely active in the world by utilizing knowledge of advanced science and technology, we nurture "inquiry skills", "creativity", "communication skills" and "independence skills" through "exploration of knowledge through surprise and excitement".

While cultivating the spirit and attitude of learning widely and deeply.
Draw out the potential originality of each student.
Developing logical thinking and sharp sensitivity to support the future of Japan.
Utilize advanced scientific knowledge, skills, and skills.
Human beings who can play an active role in the world.

The “Basic Plan” (established in December 2005) lists the following three roles that the school plays.

• Building the foundation for the formation of advanced cities in science and technology
• Promotion of human resource development through collaboration with industry and academia
• Promotion of elementary, middle, high and high school cooperation as a pioneer in educational reform

At Yokohama Science Frontier High School, we will play a special role in leading the entire Yokohama Municipal High School and promote the development of human resources who will support the future of Yokohama.

SSH is an abbreviation for Super Science High School. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has designated high schools that provide advanced science and mathematics education in order to develop future international science and technology human resources, and will support experiential and problem-solving learning through curriculum development and practice, promotion of problem research, observation and experimentation. Yokohama Science Frontier High School has been designated as SSH for five years from FY2010 to FY2014, and five years from FY2015 to FY2031 (Reiwa 2015).
