What is Road Private Use?
A specific person establishes a certain structure, property, or facility on the road and uses the road continuously.
In that case, permission from the road manager is required. (Article 32 of the Road Law) In addition, there are permission conditions depending on each property, and you will have to pay a private use fee depending on the type and size of the property to be occupied.
Major private properties
- Electric pole wires
- Water pipes
- Sewer pipe
- Gas pipes
- Protruding sign
- Construction scaffolding
- Temporary enclosure, etc.
The following items cannot be occupied.
・ Signboards, standing signs, vending machines, etc.
What is the amount of private use charges
- By 2 Clause of Road Law Article 39, it is established in Yokohama-shi road private use charges regulations.

What is the procedure for private use?
- Road occupation permission application
- Location map
- Structure of property (floor plan, three-dimensional drawing, quadrature drawing)
When permission is granted
- We issue road private use permit, delivery letter of advice (pay at banks).
- Private use period is up to 5 years. When the period has expired, an application for private use renewal is required.
Changes and abolition
- If a change occurs, you need to apply for a change.
- When it is abolished, a notification of abolition is required.
