①From 2024, the cost of stomach cancer health check-up has been reduced from 3,140 yen to 2,500 yen, making it easier to consult.
②Colorectal cancer health check-up can be consulted free of charge in 2024.
➂65-year-olds are now able to receive cancer screenings free of charge so that those who have undergone cancer screening under the system of their workplaces will be able to receive regular screenings even after Retirement. (Please refer to the "Cancer Screening Promotion Project" below for details on the target audience.)

It detects cancer, the leading cause of death, at an early stage, and link it to appropriate treatment.

Those who do not have any other consultation opportunities, such as health check-up at work, and who meet the following age requirements
※If you are currently undergoing treatment, you may not be able to consult your doctor.
※If you have symptoms at the site of health check-up, consult a medical institution immediately instead of health check-up.

Cancer screening (large intestine, stomach, lung, cervical, breast, prostate) has a birthday between April 2, 1960 and April 1, 2007, and the following cancer screening If you are at the target age in the table, you can have a medical examination.

The co-payment (600 yen) for health check-up is free of charge.

＊1 Gastric cancer health check-up cannot have both endoscopy and x-ray examinations in the same year.

＊2 If you wish to have an endoscopy for stomach cancer health check-up, be sure to bring your insurance card on the day of your consultation.
　　Endoscopy may be conducted in the middle of health check-up for the purpose of pathological examination for definitive diagnosis.
　　This biopsy will be covered by insurance, so it will be charged separately.
＊3 Lung cancer screenings conducted in Health and Welfare Center each ward until FY2023 will be integrated into individual health check-up conducted by medical institutions.

Cancer screening has the great benefit of reducing cancer mortality by finding early cancer and treating it early. Some, like cervical cancer health check-up, find abnormal cells before they get cancer. On the other hand, there are also disadvantages.

Merit 1 "It has a life-saving effect"
　The biggest benefit is life-saving through early detection and early treatment.

Merit 2 "I can detect early cancer"
　Early treatment is very likely to be cured at an early stage, and treatment is often reduced, so the physical burden, financial burden and time on the patient is generally reduced.
　Treatment if advanced cancer is found due to severe subjective symptoms can be burdensome and time-consuming.
　It can be difficult to cure. We recommend that you take cancer screening regularly from the right time so that you can find it at an early stage.

Merit 3 "I can find diseases other than cancer and can be linked to treatment."
　Cancer screening aims to find cancer and reduce the mortality caused by the cancer, but cancer screening not only finds early cancer, but also finds lesions before cancer.
　Pre-stage lesions before cancer include polyps, ulcers, and heterogeneous epithelial. If these lesions are mild, observe the progress and treating them as needed to prevent cancer.

Merit 4 "I can continue living with peace of mind"
　If you receive a cancer screening and are judged to be "no abnormal", you can spend your time with peace of mind.
However, when one in two people get cancer in the life of a Japanese person and 30% of those who die annually die from cancer, "overconfidence" is forbidden. Don't miss the regular health check-up consultation.

Demerit 1 "The result of cancer screening judgment and diagnosis is not 100% correct"
　Cancer screening technology is progressing remarkably. However, the judgment of "no abnormality" does not mean that your body has no cancer.
　We are making efforts to improve the accuracy of health check-up, but depending on the location and type of cancer, it may be difficult to find. In addition, the current situation is that there are times to be overlooked.

Demerit 2 "There is a possibility that unnecessary treatment or examination as a result."
　Some cancers found in health check-up do not have advanced cancer or remain intact and do not affect life. For now, it is not possible to distinguish between these types of cancer from ordinary cancer. Therefore, treatment such as surgery is also performed for such cancers for early treatment, but this treatment may have not been necessary. Discovering these cancers is called "overdiagnosis."
　In addition, if a cancer screening is diagnosed as "suspicion of cancer" in a cancer screening, a detailed examination is required, but as a result of a detailed examination, it is often determined that it was not cancer. This is called "false positive." As a result, unnecessary tests have been performed, which poses a psychological burden on the examinee. However, it is only possible to understand after a detailed inspection, and the current situation is that there is no choice but to avoid a detailed inspection, and to some extent.

Demerit 3 "Examination can put a burden on the body."
　Barium used in X-ray examinations can cause constipation, and in endoscopes, bleeding and perforation can cause holes in the stomach and intestines. Radiation has a problem of exposure.
