What is passive smoking?

Passive smoking refers to inhaling the smoke of surrounding cigarettes, regardless of your will, and also affect the health of non-smokers.
There are three types of tobacco smoke: mainstream smoke that smokers inhale, sidestream smoke coming out of the smoke, and exhaled smoke exhaled from smokers. Sidestream smoke contains more harmful substances than mainstream smoke.

Smoke that rises from the tip of a cigarette, which is highly alkaline and strongly stimulates the eyes and nose. Sidestream smoke contains more harmful substances than mainstream smoke.

In July 2018, the revised Health Promotion Law, which strengthens measures to prevent passive smoking, was enacted.

In April 2010, the "Ordinance on Passive Smoking Prevention in Kanagawa Prefecture Public Facilities" was enforced.

What kind of regulations?

In facility (public facility) having space (public space) that unspecified or many people can enter and exit, it is the regulations that established rule to prevent passive smoking.

  • Type 1 facility, such as hospitals and government facilities → Non-smoking
  • "Type 2 facilities" such as restaurants and accommodation facilities → Smoking or smoking
    ※Near the entrance of the facility, "Non-smoking" and "Smoke separation" is required.
