Heat stroke information

Last Updated October 7, 2024

Beware of heat stroke!

  • The total number of transports (using Fire Bureau data) from April 29 to October 6 was 1,640 (April 0, May 31, June 100, July 854, August 504, September 149, October 2). From July 4 to 8, the maximum temperature was 34.3 ° C or more, the heat index was 31.8 ° C or more, and the number of transports surged to 40 or more / day every day. . On July 20, the highest temperature was 35.6 ° C, the heat index was 32.9 ° C, and the number of transports was 54, the highest during the period. From September 25, the maximum temperature was 30 ° C or less, and the number of transporters was 1 or less per day. The temperature fluctuates greatly, so be careful about physical condition management.

  • Heat stroke occurs around May before the rainy season, and tends to occur frequently on hot days. It occurs when the function of regulation of body temperature does not work well in an environment such as high temperature, and heat traps in the body. In particular, it tends to increase on sultry days, windy days, sunny days, etc., so remove water frequently, adjust room temperature appropriately, and protect yourself from heat.
  • Frequent hydration, use air conditioners and fans well to adjust the room temperature appropriately, do not overdo it when it is hot, and be careful about physical condition management.
  • The largest number in the 80s was 371 (22.6%), followed by 288 (17.6%) in the 70s.
  • Outbreaks are increasing at 59.8% outdoors and 40.2% indoors.
  • It was 57.4% mild, 38.5% moderate, 3.4% severe, and 0.8% serious.
  • The proportion of elderly people with moderate or higher tended to be high at 57.1%.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

・Mildness: Those who do not require hospitalization
・Moderate: There is no danger of life but requires hospitalization
・Severe: Probably life-threatening
・Serious: The danger of life is imminent

Points of Heat Stroke Prevention Action

(1) Replenish water frequently

○ Replenish water, salt, sports drinks, etc. frequently, whether indoors, outdoors, or without feeling thirst.

People who want to be especially careful

  • Children need to be careful because their ability to regulate body temperature is not sufficiently developed (do not leave children and pets in the car).
  • Elderly people need to be careful because the sensory function for heat and water shortage and the body adjustment function are also reduced.
  • Special consideration should be given to people with disabilities, as they may not be able to complain of their symptoms.

(2) About the use of air conditioners

○ The use of air conditioners is effective to prevent heat stroke. However, general household air conditioners only circulate air and do not ventilate. Even during cooling, it is necessary to perform ventilation by opening windows and ventilation fans. Ventilation tends to increase the indoor temperature, so make adjustments such as lowering the temperature setting of the air conditioner.

(3) About moving to a cool place

○ It is effective to move to a cool place (shading or well-ventilated place) as soon as possible if you feel any unusual in physical condition outdoors.

(4) About daily health management

○ Get enough sleep and try to have a well-balanced diet.

○ Know your body on a daily basis and enhance your health management. Also, if you feel unwell, do not overdo it and recuperate at home.
