Heat stroke prevention points

1 Ingest water frequently

・Even if you don't feel thirsty, let's drink water frequently.
※Alcohol has a diuretic effect, leading to dehydration.
・If you sweat a lot, replenish water and salt with sports drinks.
・Don't drink a lot at once, and let's drink in small portions.

2 Ingenuity of clothes

・Let's loosen the collar and wear well-ventilated clothes.
・When you go out, use a hat or parasol.
・Let's absorb sweat and make clothes of materials with good breathability.

3 Avoid heat

・Avoid direct sunlight and walk in the shade.
・Avoid working under the scorching sun or under high temperature and humidity or intense exercise as much as possible.
・Don't overdo it and use air conditioning such as air conditioners.
・Let's check the temperature and humidity of the room.

Health promotion from around 4th

・Get enough sleep and try to have a well-balanced diet.
・Don't overdo it when you feel sick.
・Create a habit of exercising lightly for a short time and get used to the heat.

Symptoms of heat stroke

Symptoms of heat stroke

Severity

Symptoms

Mild illness

Dizziness, muscle pain, heavy sweating※

Moderate disease

Headache, mood discomfort, nausea, vomiting, malaise, collapse

Severe

Disorder of consciousness, convulsions, limb movement disorders, high body temperature

※If heat stroke is severe, there is no sweat and the skin becomes dry, so it is important not to judge only by sweat.

First Aid

・Evacuation to a cool environment
⇒Rest in an air-conditioned room or in a well-ventilated place in the shade.
・Undressing and cooling
⇒Take off your clothes and escape heat, bathe in water, blow the wind, cool with ice, etc. to lower your body temperature.
・Replenishment of water and salt
⇒When vomiting, avoid excessive intake, as there is a risk of aspiration.
※Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they may increase urine volume and lead to dehydration. Oral rehydration solutions (a mixture of salt and glucose in water) and sports drinks that can also supply salt lost by sweat.

The inability to hydrate on your own is a guide for transporting to medical institutions. Let's respond as soon as possible before it becomes severe.

Let's be careful about this point

Pay attention to changes in your physical condition every day.
Always pay attention to changes in yourself and your surrounding physical condition. Elderly people, children, and people with disabilities need special attention.

Approximately half of heat stroke patients are older than 65 years old.

Elderly people have reduced sensory function for heat and lack of water and body adjustment function for heat.
Since heat stroke often occurs indoors, check the temperature and humidity in the room frequently and use the air conditioner without feeling the heat.
Prepared by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Measures against Heat Stroke for the Elderly (Flyer A4 Both sides) (PDF: 1,462KB)

Consideration should be given to those who have difficulty complaining of poor physical condition.

Pay attention to the physical condition of those who have difficulty complaining of poor physical condition, such as small children and people with disabilities.
Care must be taken for small children because their body temperature control function is not yet fully developed and are susceptible to heat stroke.
If you have a disease, your body temperature regulation function may be reduced. It is important to pay attention to changes in your physical condition.

Heat Stroke Countermeasures Leaflet for Summer Events

Leaflet image for events

In recent years, the number of days when the temperature exceeds 30 ° C has increased, and the temperature has been rising throughout the year over the long term, so there is concern about the impact on health.
Based on the fact that heat stroke is particularly likely to occur at outdoor summer events, we have created a leaflet summarizing preventive measures for safe holding. Please use it together with the checklist.

Prevention of heat stroke in the event of a disaster

Heat stroke is a serious illness that can lead to death, but it can be prevented with appropriate prevention and measures.
In the event of a disaster, unfamiliar environments and work increase the risk of heat stroke, so be careful while talking to each other.
