A joint declaration was made with ports around the world to reduce emissions at ports <FY2021>
In order to promote new international and domestic policies on the ocean hosted by France, the One Ocean Summit was held, including a meeting of port, maritime and transportation personnel and various events (February 9-11). As a joint achievement, the supporting countries and the supporting signing ports have declared a joint statement promising concrete efforts to reduce the environmental impact of ship berthing. Yokohama Port has agreed to the joint statement because it is promoting specific initiatives in the statement to form a carbon neutral port.
Last Updated February 18, 2022
Initiatives specified in the joint statement
Make the best efforts to introduce onshore power supply by 2028.
Onshore power supply is an initiative to reduce the emission of ships and promote environmental conservation and decarbonization of ports by stopping the engine of ships during berthing and supplying electricity from land.
Based on the ESI (Environmental Ship Index) system and the Green Awards program, ports provide incentives for environmentally friendly vessels.
Oh The ESI system is an environmental vessel indicator system operated by IAPH (International Port Association). In order to reduce emissions of air pollutants, etc. from ships, the port side measures and evaluates ships with low environmental impact, and provides incentives for excellent ships.
Yokohama Port has been participating since April 2017, and has reduced the amount equivalent to 15% of the port entry fee for excellent ships. There are 61 ports around the world, and about 7,000 ships of various ship types have registered. In Japan, in addition to Yokohama Port, only Tokyo Port and Tomakomai Port participate.
Oh The Green Awards Program is a system provided by the Green Awards Foundation (Netherlands) that contributes to environmental considerations, safety measures, and improvement of the quality of seafarers, mainly for fuel carriers such as tankers. Yokohama Port has been participating since April 2017, and has reduced the amount equivalent to 15% of the port entry fee for excellent ships.
