Akarengasoko carried out large-scale restoration work after the Great Kanto Earthquake, but since then only small-scale repairs have been made. Therefore, when the city acquired it in 1992, corrosion of the opening, leakage from the roof, graffiti on the outer wall, etc. were terrible.
For this reason, Yokohama City has been carrying out construction work to preserve the building, along with considering plans to utilize the warehouse. The main contents of the construction are roof renovation (replacement of all 140,000 tiles), restoration of corroded windows, eaves, removal of graffiti, structural reinforcement with steel frames, etc. These series of works have been completed and completed until 1999.
