About preservation of Akarengasoko
Akarengasoko carried out large-scale restoration work after the Great Kanto Earthquake, but only small-scale repairs have been made since then. Therefore, at the beginning of Motoichi acquired in 1992, the corrosion of the opening, rain leaks from the roof, and graffiti on the outer wall were severe.
For this reason, Yokohama City has been working to preserve the building while considering a warehouse utilization plan. The main contents of the construction are roof renovation (replace all 140,000 tiles), restoration of corroded windows and eaves, removal of graffiti, and structural reinforcement using steel frames. These series of constructions have been completed until 1999.
