Interaction between elementary and junior high school students

We talked to Katsumi Baba, Chairman of the Kamiiida Union Neighborhood Association, who is focusing on the participation of elementary and junior high school students in local activities, aiming to create a safe and secure town, support each other and helping each other. Was.

Background of Initiatives

It was about 15 years ago that my relationship with junior high school students deepened. At that time, Kamiiida Junior High School continued to be difficult to educate, and many school officials and local people were worried.

To improve this situation, the community and schools have started various initiatives in cooperation.

At that time, there were many illegal buildings, vacant lots, and undeveloped forests around Kamiiida Junior High School, so in order to improve the educational environment, we petitioned Yokohama City to crack down on illegal buildings and responded. Did.
In the area, we worked with junior high schools to improve the environment, such as removing illegal dumping garbage in vacant lots, pruning trees to improve visibility with the permission of forest owners, and mowing grass.

Gradually, the students gradually regained their calm, and the educational environment has been improved and continues.

Specific Initiatives

We are making various efforts to have junior high school students participate in local activities.

  1. Posting of Greeting Campaign and Poster
Promoting a Greeting campaign in a community. Nowadays, whenever, whenever you meet, you can say hello. In addition, students draw posters calling for greetings at will and post them on local bulletin boards.
  2. Kamiiida District Youth Instructor Council Development Community Leaders
Certified junior high school students who have participated in local volunteer activities twice or more as community leaders. A certificate and a supplementary prize will be given at the Youth Gathering (January).
  3. Strengthening cooperation between local communities and schools
Although it is difficult to adjust the schedule of school events and union events, even if the principal changes in several years, the relationship with the community has been firmly inherited and communication between the school and the community has been maintained.
Cooperation was strengthened after experiencing a change in the school area from Nakawada Elementary School to Kamiiida Elementary School, and the reorganization and integration of Iida Kita Elementary School and Icho Elementary School.

In creating a place for exchange

I try to be able to participate naturally, not mobilization. Here are some of the businesses we are currently working on.

[Five Initiatives]

  1. Planting turf cherry tree planting at Iida Kita Icho Elementary School
As part of the "Green and Flower Project" in the Kamiiida area, we are working to plant mosss around Iida Kita Icho Elementary School, and we are calling for participation in elementary school student.
  2. Exchange ground golf between local and elementary and junior high school students
Twice a year to exchange grand golf between local communities and elementary and junior high school students. After the game, exchange opinions "what kind of Kamiiida do you want to make" while eating soup powder and fried noodles.
  3. Cleaning of Kamiiida Nishi Park and Kamiiida Junior High School
Three times in July, December and March every year, an environmental improvement project in collaboration with local people and junior high school students. A large number of junior high school students participate every time.
  4. Participated in the Kamiiida Union Sports Festival as a competition officer
Around 50 junior high school students will participate in the Kamiiida Union's sports festival held in October as competition officers.
  5. Participation in Community Welfare and Health Planning Promotion Council
We invite junior high school students to participate together with teachers at the Kamiiida District Community Welfare and Health Plan Promotion Committee, which is held every February. Through group work, we will exchange opinions with adults, "What kind of Kamiiida do you want to do?", And finally make a presentation as a group representative.

Union Neighborhood Association Women's Club, Youth Instructors, Sports Promotion Committee members, and Nissuikai are creating a place for exchange. Children are also friends in the community. I hope we can create a comfortable area for everyone.
And I'm really happy if I'm an adult and come back to the community.
I would like to connect our thoughts to the next generation.
