Initiatives for elementary and junior high school students to participate in local activities

Last update date December 20, 2023

"In the Kamiiida area, elementary and junior high school students actively participate in local activities, and the community and schools cooperate! ]

Kamiiida Union Neighborhood Association
Katsumi Baba

☆"What was the reason?"

This is a cleanup activity of elementary and junior high school students in the Kamiiida district and local residents.

About 15 years ago, junior high school was rough, and the damage of objects in the school were rampant, and the educational environment was inferior.

☆"What did you do (what kind of action?")
We thought that it was necessary to improve the environment around the school, so the community and the school worked together to improve it.
Improve the educational environment by petitioning Yokohama City to crack down on illegal buildings, removing illegal dumping garbage in areas such as vacant lots and undeveloped forests, with the permission of the owner, pruning and improving prospects. As a result of our efforts, a strong bond between the community and the school was formed.

☆"How long did it take (period)"
It took me five or six years to improve the educational environment. Even now, cleaning around the school is continuing three times a year.
It was about 10 years ago that elementary and junior high school students began to participate in local events and activities.

☆"What happened (the result, what has improved)?"
Elementary and junior high school students actively participate in local activities and events, and junior high school students attend local meetings, and exchanges with the community are active.
The cooperative system between local communities and schools has also been strengthened.
In addition, there are greetings campaigns, planting turf cherry trees, participation in ground golf tournaments, and cooperation of sports festival officials.

☆"What's going on after that (future challenges)?"
Children who have participated in local activities (events) more than three times are certified as community leaders, and original caps (currently writing instruments).
After the ground golf tournament twice a year, we exchange opinions with junior high school students while eating yakisoba.
I would like to continue the relationship between the community and the school with the aim of becoming a junior high school student's statue of Kamiiida that I want to be like this.

◆Q&A review at the Information Exchange Meeting (2017/01/26)◆
Q: A few years ago, I attended the Health and Welfare Conference, and the last presentation was very impressive. At Akatsuki, a junior high school in compulsory education was established in Ryokuen, and I would like to invite junior high school students to speak.
A: Thank you very much. I heard from the junior high school principal that school results did not reach the national average, but community contributions and service activities are much higher than the national average. I would like to continue this situation in the future.

≪This is the point!≫

  • Cooperation between the community and the school is essential!
  • It is important for the community to support schools, and schools go out to the community and work together to promote community development!

◇From the presenters (differences, such as this was good, etc.)◇
In addition, I am glad to actively participate in Izumikko Kabuki.
It is difficult to adjust the schedule between school events and local events, but I would like to continue to value this bond.
We will continue to work with the fact that "children are national treasures and local treasures".

◆From Utsumi Coordinator◆
Elementary school students have a children's association and have a relationship with the community.
As a school, I think that there is a way to walk with the community and town, but it tends to disappear when junior high school students become junior high school students.
I think it is very important to continue to engage with the community, like Kamiiida.
Until now, we have been planting turf cherry trees, cleaning parks and schools around parks and schools, sports festivals, ground golf, etc. I think it's a good idea to help each student's interests, help with disaster prevention, anti-crime program and children's association activities.
