Kitamukai Jizo
Last Updated February 16, 2024
From National Route 1 to Yokohama Seifu High School (former Meirin High School), there is "Kita Jizo" next to the intersection that has climbed a long and steep slope (Iwanazaka). This road that Jizo watches over has been used by many people since ancient times as the "Kanazawa Kamakura Road".
The following story is told as a way that this Jizo was built in 1717 (1717).
Near this, a lost monk was at a loss, and a priest at a nearby temple appeared and stayed at the temple. According to the priest, Jizo was told in his dream, "There are monks who are lost and are in trouble, so go to salvation." It is said that the monk who learned that donated his belongings and built Jizo facing the north (Edo) with his appreciation for Jizo and wishing for the safety of his trip.
After that, even if the direction of Jizo was changed at the time of repair, it was suddenly returned to the north, so it came to be called "Kitamu Jizo".
This is the junction of "Kanazawa Kamakurado", and the prism of Jizo is engraved with "Kanasawa Road on the left side" and "Kumeru Temple Road on the right side", and to Kanazawa and Komyoji. It also served as directions.
It was registered as a cultural property of Yokohama City in December 1989.
