Katabira River

The Katabira River is a 17km-long second-class river that flows into Yokohama Port with a water source near Wakabadai, Asahi-ku.
It is said that the name originated in the past, because the northern estuary coast was gentle and only one side was flat, the name "Katahira" occurred, which became "mailing".
In the Edo period, there was a boat landing at the mouth of the Katabira River, where merchants were sending firewood and charcoal to the Edo area as a base for boating using the tides.
In the Meiji era, exports of silk scarves surged, near the port, easy access to land and land, and there was abundant water in the clear stream, so dyeing factories gathered around Katabira River.
In the last process of printing, there was a work to wash water using the flow of the river to remove excess dyes and glue on the cloth, and it is said that the river changed to seven colors with the dye that flowed out .
In the past, the river meandered severely and often fluttered during heavy rains, etc., so it was nicknamed the "Range River", but river improvement and maintenance of diversion channels were carried out, and flood control measures were advanced.
The riverside park and Katabira River revetment have been improved at the same time, making it an integrated hydrophilic facility and popular among residents.
