Imai Kaido and Imai Castle Ruins
Last Updated February 16, 2024
A bus route that runs through the center of Imaimachi. Imai Kaido has been the main street of Imaimachi for a long time.
Behind "Konoji" along the highway is a hill called "Shiroyama". On the southern and northern sides of the elongated hill extending 300 meters north-south, and on the flatlands on the hillside, a curved ring (a basic concept to form a castle to protect from enemies) is formed.
Locally, it is reported that there was a fort here. It is said that it was the residence of Yoshinaka Kiso's Shigeomi Kanehira Imai, but unfortunately there is no record.
"Shiroyama," "Shiroyama Inari" is enshrined at the southern end of the temple.
In October 1955, a large jar of To ware was dug out from the base of the azalea tree on the south side of the dust of Shiroyama Inari. It contained a large amount of old coins of about 400 kg.
The excavated old coins were used from the Kamakura period to the Warring States period, and were mainly from Chinese coins (Tang Qian, Southern Song Qian, Northern Song Qian, Mei Qian, etc.).
At present, a monument written as "Imai Castle Ruins" is built on the grounds of Shiroyama Inari, written by the late Mayor of Michiichi Saigo. Why don't you visit it once?
