About use of Yokohama-shi history reference room

[Important] For those who use the Yokohama City History Archives

The Yokohama City History Archives has many materials that need to be ordered, so we will guide you to use the service with "priority to advance reservations". Please note that if you come to the room without a reservation, depending on the materials you wish to browse, we may guide you on another day due to the order. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Overview

The Yokohama City History Archives is an organization that holds, collects, and discloses materials related to Yokohama City from the reconstruction period of the Great Kanto Earthquake to the present day.
The collection materials are newly collected and released based on the materials collected for the editing of "Yokohama City History II".
It also serves as an archive that stores and publishes historical official documents of Yokohama City.
In city history reference room, we wait for information to leave many materials describing the history of Yokohama-shi to future generations. For more information, please refer to the following URL.

Usage guide

Opening hours and closed days

Opening hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Application for browsing materials in the library Reception hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed days: Sunday and closed days in Municipal Central Library
(Please refer to the "Library Calendar" in City Library, Yokohama for details on closed days in Chuo-toshokan.)

Materials available

◎Regarding the use of each material, in addition to "viewing" and "copying", we also receive consultation on posting and broadcasting in publications.
◎For details of each material, please refer to the following document.
※There are restrictions on the use of the materials due to the preservation status of the materials, the intentions of the material provider, and the protection of personal information.
※In particular, with regard to "personal / institution materials", if it is necessary to confirm the intention of the material provider and the protection of personal information, it will take a few days (hours) to use it, so please allow enough time in advance Please consult with us.

Procedures for entering the room

  1. Please fill in the "Entry Registration Form" at the reception desk.
    ※Please cooperate with the questionnaire to improve the browsing service.
  2. Once you have filled out the "Entry Reception Form", please receive the locker key at the reception and use the locker for luggage other than writing utensils (pencils, mechanical pencils, erasers, notebooks) and valuables.
  3. In case of rain, please use a plastic bag provided for umbrellas.
  4. Please refrain from using mobile phones and cameras in the reference room, eating and drinking.
  5. Please use pencils or mechanical pencils for writing instruments to prevent material pollution.

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

About reading of books and administrative publications

  1. You can freely view books and administrative publications lined up in the open corner of the reading room.
  2. If the book or administrative publication you are looking for has not been opened, ask the reception staff. The staff will check the location of the materials and cash out books and administrative publications.
    ※If the book you want is damaged, we may guide you to browse the books in Chuo-toshokan.
  3. When browsing closed books and administrative publications, please fill out the “Document Viewing Application Form (Excel: 16KB)” and submit it to the reception.
    ※Please note that it may take some time to pay out books and administrative publications.
  4. We do not lend books or administrative publications in this library.
  5. Materials cannot be taken out of this library (including in the library).

About copying of books and administrative publications

  1. Regardless of whether it is open or closed, books and administrative publications can be copied by electronic copigrapher.
  2. Please fill out the "copy application form" before copying and submit it to the reception.
  3. Please use the coin-operated electronic copying machine in our room for copying.

About browsing of materials of individuals and institutions and historical official documents

※Please contact us by phone or email as much as possible for viewing applications.

  1. Documents of individuals and institutions and historical official documents are released sequentially from those that are ready to be released.
  2. Please refer to the "List of Yokohama City History Archives" provided at the reception for the disclosure status of the materials.
  3. For details of the materials, please refer to the “Yokohama City History Material Location Catalog” (1st to 12th), “Yokohama Air Raid Related Material Collection Catalog” provided at the reception, and each catalog.
    However, please note that some materials may not be available even if they are listed in the catalog.
  4. Among the materials published in the "Yokohama City History Archives List", there are some materials that do not have a catalog provided. If you ask the reception desk, we will pay you the corresponding catalog.
  5. When browsing the materials, please fill out the “Application for Materials Viewing (Excel: 16KB)” and submit it to the reception.
  6. Materials that have created duplicates (microfilm, paper prints, etc.) should be copied in principle for the preservation and management of the materials.

Copying of documents of individuals and institutions and historical official documents

  1. In principle, copies of materials will be partially copied.
  2. Except for places containing personal information, duplicate prints can be copied by a coin-operated electronic copy machine in the room in principle. Please fill out the "copy application form" before copying and submit it to the reception.
  3. The print of the microfilm is handled by the vendor (charged). Please fill out the "Application Form" and submit it to the reception desk.
  4. The original materials cannot be copied by an electronic copigrapher to prevent deterioration. All original materials that are not duplicated will be handled by the vendor (charged). Please fill out the “Application for Special Use of Materials (Excel: 25KB)” and submit it to the reception.
    ※Please refrain from using the camera in our library.

Use of materials by posting and broadcasting in publications

If it is necessary to confirm the intention of the material provider regarding how to use it, it will take a few days (hours) to provide the material. In advance, please consult with us about how to use by phone or e-mail with sufficient time in the schedule.
When you use, please download "special use application such as materials (Excel: 25KB)", fill in, and submit. We also accept faxes or e-mails.
※In the case of use such as exhibition or broadcasting, please submit materials such as "plan book".

(Note) When printing, please make a double-sided copy.
