About the use of Yokohama City History Archives

[Important] To all of you who use Yokohama City History Archives

Since there are many materials that need to be ordered in the Yokohama City History Archives, we will guide you through the use of services based on "prior reservation priority". Please note that if you come to the room without a reservation, we may inform you on another day due to ordering depending on the materials you wish to view. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Overview

The Yokohama City History Archives is an organization that holds, collects, and publishes materials related to Yokohama City from the reconstruction period of the Great Kanto Earthquake to the present.
Collections are newly collected and released based on materials collected for editing "Yokohama City History II".
It also serves as an archive function that preserves and publishes historical documents of Yokohama City.
In city history archives, we wait for information to leave many materials describing the history of Yokohama City for future generations. For more information, please refer to the following link.

Usage Guide

Opening hours and closed days

Opening hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Application for Viewing Materials in Library Reception hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed days: Sunday and Municipal Central Library closed days
(For information on closed days of Chuo-toshokan, please see the Library Calendar in City Library.)

Available materials

◎Regarding the use of each material, in addition to "browsing" and "copying", we also consult about posting and broadcasting in publications.
◎Please refer to the document summary for details of each document.
※There are restrictions on use depending on the state of preservation of the materials, the intention of the material provider, and the protection of personal information.
※In particular, for "individuals / Institutional Materials", if it is necessary to confirm the intention of the material provider and the protection of personal information, etc., it will take days (time) to use it. Please consult with us.

Procedure for entry

  1. Please fill in the "Entry Registration Form" at the reception desk.
    ※Please cooperate with the questionnaire to improve the browsing service.
  2. After filling out the "Entry Reception Form", please receive the locker key at the reception and use the locker for luggage other than writing utensils (pencils, mechanical pencils, eraser, notebooks) and valuables.
  3. In case of rain, please use the provided plastic bag provided for the umbrella.
  4. Please refrain from using mobile phones and cameras in the reference room, eating and drinking.
  5. Please use pencil or mechanical pencil for writing utensils to prevent contamination of materials.

Application for Viewing Materials in Library Reception hours

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

About reading of books and administrative publications

  1. You can freely view books and administrative publications lined up in the open corner of the reading room.
  2. If the book or administrative publication you are looking for is not open, please ask the reception staff. The staff checks the location of the materials and accounts for books and administrative publications.
    ※If the desired book is damaged, we may guide you to view the books in Chuo-toshokan.
  3. When browsing closed books and administrative publications, please fill out the “Document Reading Application Form (Excel: 16KB)” and submit it to the reception.
    ※Please note that it may take some time to pay for books and administrative publications.
  4. This library does not lend books or administrative publications.
  5. Collections cannot be taken outside of this library room (including inside the library).

About copying of books and administrative publications

  1. Books and administrative publications can be copied by electronic copiers, regardless of open or closed shelves.
  2. Please fill out the “Copy Application Form” before copying and submit it to the reception.
  3. Please use a coin-operated electronic copy machine (10 yen per sheet, black and white only) in our room.

About browsing of personal and institution materials and historical official documents

※Please contact us by phone or e-mail in advance as much as possible.

  1. Individual and institutional materials and historical official documents are released in order from those that are ready to be released.
  2. Please refer to the "List of Yokohama City History Archives Documents" provided at the reception for the status of publication of the materials.
  3. For details of the materials, please refer to the "Yokohama City History Materials Location Catalog" (1st to 12th), "Yokohama Air Raid Related Materials Collection Catalog", and each catalog provided at the reception.
    However, please note that some materials cannot be released even if they are listed in the catalog.
  4. Among the materials listed in the "List of Yokohama City History Archives", some materials do not have the provided catalog. If you contact the reception desk, we will pay the relevant catalogue.
  5. When browsing the materials, please fill out the “Document Reading Application Form (Excel: 16KB)” and submit it to the reception.
  6. Materials for which duplicates (microfilm, paper prints, etc.) have been prepared, in principle, duplicated for preservation and management of the materials.

About copying of individual and institution materials and historical official documents

  1. As a general rule, copying of the materials will be partially copied.
  2. Duplicated prints can be copied using indoor coin-operated electronic copiers in the room, except in places that contain personal information. Please fill out the “Copy Application Form” before copying and submit it to the reception.
  3. Microfilm prints are handled by the vendor (charged). Please fill out the "Application Form" and submit it to the reception desk.
  4. The original materials cannot be copied by electronic copiers to prevent deterioration. All original materials without duplication will be handled by the vendor (charged). Please fill out the “Special Application Form for Materials (Excel: 25KB)” and submit it to the reception.
    ※Please refrain from using the camera in this reference room.

Use of materials by posting and airing in publications

If it is necessary to confirm the intention of the material provider regarding how to use it, it will take a few days (hour) to provide the materials. Please consult us about how to use it by phone or e-mail in advance with sufficient schedule.
When you use it, please download and submit "special use application such as materials (Excel: 25KB)" and fill in, and submit. We also accept faxes or e-mail.
※In the case of use such as exhibitions and broadcasting, please submit materials such as "plans".

(Note) When printing, please make a double-sided copy.
