SIP Next-Generation Marine Resources Survey Technology Survey of Ecosystems and Development of Long-Term Monitoring Technology
International Symposium
"Future of Subsea Resources and Sustainable Development - Environmental Consideration is a shortcut to development."

Precious metals such as gold and silver, and precious mineral resources such as rare earth are present on the seabed, and there are various social expectations. In addition, when considering the use of seabed resources, it is necessary to promote sustainable development while considering the environment.
In this symposium, we will introduce international trends related to the use of seabed resources and the environmental conservation of the ocean, as well as introduce the research results in both the natural and social sciences, which the SIP "Sea Zipang Plan" has been promoting regarding the survey, observation monitoring, and evaluation methods of the marine environment necessary for environmental consideration.
In the comprehensive discussion, we will discuss environmental impact assessments and management for the use of submarine resources and show that "environmental consideration is a shortcut to development."

The 15th Symposium Series “Fostering Ocean Culture from Yokohama”
"The Ten Years of the Sea and the Future,"

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment and enforcement of the Basic Ocean on Oceans, and at the same time, the Integrated Ocean Education and Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the Marine Center) of Yokohama National University has been established for 10 years. During this time, the Marine Center has conducted a sub-program program called “Integrated Ocean Management” for graduate students, with the goal of developing human resources who can analyze problems from a bird's-eye view, and can play an active role in society immediately. On the other hand, the situation in Japan and overseas surrounding the sea has also changed, and the formulation of the Third Basic Plan for Ocean Policy is scheduled for next year. Therefore, in the 15th symposium series "Fostering Ocean Culture from Yokohama", we will look back on the situation surrounding the sea over the past 10 years, and in addition to the future prospects of each field, we will discuss the ocean and Yokohama.
