Efforts in Food Education Activities

The Fisheries Department of the Yokohama Central Wholesale Market is open to the public every Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. On the first and third Saturday, we hold various events to interact with the general public as an initiative to spread fish food. Major events include “market exploration” and “tuna dismantling show” to explore facilities in the market that are not normally visible.

Wholesalers, middle wholesalers, related businesses, etc. of the authentic fishery department hold irregular cooking classes in order to spread and promote consumption of fish food. In addition to having you learn basic way of lowering fish, experts provide cooking guidance.

In order to foster interest in food in elementary school studenｔ, professionals in the Fruit and Vegetables Department and Fisheries Department conduct on-site classes and market tours to help them feel the importance and enjoyment of food.
