Water quality standards
Last update date April 1, 2024
Sewage water quality standards that can be drained from business establishments to public sewers are determined by the Sewerage Law for the purpose of preserving the facilities and functions of public sewerage and observing the water quality standards for effluent from wastewater treatment plants. .
In addition, specific water quality standards are as shown in the following table and are regulated as follows.
(a) Direct punishment standards (Article 12-2 of the Act (External Site), Ordinance Article 8-2 (External Site))
This standard is applied to specific business establishments in preference to the standards for setting up abatement facilities, and if sewage quality exceeds this standard, it may be immediately punished. (Article 46-2, Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Act)
Regarding harmful substances such as cadmium and cyanide, regardless of the amount of wastewater, for phenols and copper, etc., the wastewater discharge is 50 m3 / day or more, and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), suspended solids (SS), and normal hexane extract substance content (limited to animal and plant fat content) Business sites with a drainage volume of 2,000 m3 / day or more are eligible.
(b) Abatement facility setting standards (Article 12 (outside site), law Article 12-11 (outside site), ordinance Article 6 (outside site))
It is intended for all establishments that use the public sewer continuously, and if the quality of sewage exceeds this standard, it must install abatement facilities. If you exceed the standard, you will not be punished immediately, but you will be subject to supervision (Article 38, Paragraph 1 of the Act (external site)), and if you do not comply with the disposition, you will be punished. (Article 46 of the Act (External Site))
