What is the private use of roads?
Roads are originally used for general traffic such as vehicles and pedestrians, but this refers to establishing certain structures, properties and facilities on roads other than the original purpose and using them continuously.
In order to occupy the road, a road occupation permit is required, and private use fees are collected from those who have permitted private use.
Property that can be occupied
Private use permission criteria
Major private property
- Security lights
- Electric poles and electric wires
- Water, sewage, gas pipes
- Scaffolds for construction, temporary enclosures, etc.
- Protruding signboard
(Note) Putting signs, standing signs, etc. cannot be occupied.
What is the amount of the private use fee?
- It is stipulated in the Yokohama City Road Private Charges Ordinance.
- Please contact Public Works Office for details as it depends on the property you occupy.
How to apply for private use?
Please submit the following documents to the competent Public Works Office.
- Road occupation permission application
- Location map
- Structure of the property (floor plan, three-dimensional plan, quadrature plan)
With permission
- As we issue road private use permit, delivery letter of advice, please pay private use charges in financial institutions such as banks.
- The private use period is up to 5 years. In order to update the period, you need to apply for a private renewal.
Changes and abolition
- When a change occurs, a change application is required, and a notification of abolition is required when abolished.
