Let's know the right weight
Last Updated September 19, 2024
Be careful as obesity leads to cancer and metabolic syndrome and increases the risk of getting lifestyle-related diseases.
On the other hand, thinness has shown that young women have a risk of bone loss and birth of low birth weight infants, and that elderly people are more likely to fall into frail (middle health and nursing care required).
In order to live a healthy life, it is important to be careful not to overweight or lean, and to maintain a proper weight.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's “Japanese Dietary Intake Standards” shows the range of healthy BMI by age. It is important to manage weight according to changes in life stages.
Method of calculating BMI
Physique check
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m) ÷ height (m)
(Example) For people weighing 60kg and 165cm tall
60÷1.65÷1.65≒22
BMI is 22.
Age | 18-49 years old | 50-64 years old | 65 years old or older |
---|---|---|---|
Target BMI | 18.5~24.9 | 20.0~24.9 | 21.5~24.9 |
