What is Road Private Use?

A specific person establishes a certain structure, property, or facility on the road and uses the road continuously. In that case, permission from the road manager is required. In addition, there are permission conditions according to each property, and you will be required to pay a private use fee depending on the type and size of the property to be occupied.

What are the main private property?

  • Electric pole wires
  • Water pipes
  • Sewer pipe
  • Gas tubes
  • Protruding sign
  • Construction scaffolding
  • Temporary enclosure, etc.

※Place signboards, standing signs, vending machines, etc. cannot be occupied.

What is the amount of private use charges

  • Based on the Road Law, it is stipulated in the Yokohama City Road Private Use Charge Ordinance.
  • Please contact Public Works Office for details.

What is the procedure for private use?

Please submit the following documents to Public Works Office

  • Road occupation permission application
  • Location map
  • Structure of property (floor plan, three-dimensional drawing, quadrature drawing)

When permission is granted

  • We issue road private use permit, delivery letter of advice (pay at banks).
  • Private use period is up to 5 years. When the period has expired, an application for private use renewal is required.

Changes and abolition

  • If a change occurs, you need to apply for a change.
  • When it is abolished, a notification of abolition is required.
