Role of wastewater treatment facilities
There are two types of landfill: an inland type that uses inland terrain to provide water-blocking functions, and a sea-level type with water-blocking revetments on the sea surface. Regardless of which method is used, a "drainage treatment facility" is required to properly treat leachate from the disposal site.
In Yokohama, in addition to the landfill, the 5th block of Minamihonmoku, which is being reclaimed, leachate is being purified at seven locations that have been reclaimed.
