About the utilization of public space corresponding to COVID-19 (general information)
As an emergency measure to support drinking establishments affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Yokohama City has established a “avoiding 3 Cs” and “new livelihoods”.
Provisional treatment is performed for the use of public spaces corresponding to the establishment of style.
Nihon Odori Avenue
In the redevelopment of the sidewalk in 2002 to widen the sidewalk, the symbol of the ginkgo trees stand out, and in harmony with the historical buildings along the road, it is designed as a fun tree-lined road.
In addition, on the widened sidewalk, we are working with local organizations to create an open café and create a lively atmosphere in Nihon Odori Avenue.

Promenade of the Toyoko Line abandoned line
The site of the Toukyu Toyoko Line abandoned line (between Yokohama Station and Sakuragicho Station) is undergoing step-by-step maintenance and operation as a pedestrian-only road. On July 16, 2019, maintenance of the part including the elevated elevated (near Sakuragicho Station West Exit Plaza and Momijizaka Intersection) was completed for the first time.
The area is located between the Minato Mirai area and the Noge / Tobe area, which is sandwiched between cities with different personalities, such as the Minato Mirai area and the Noge / Tobe area, it has the potential to create an attractive space uniquely.
Aiming at a new attractive pedestrian space in the city, experimental events will be held mainly in service parts in order to organize necessary conditions and issue utilization entities for future utilization and maintenance of undeveloped sections. We will conduct several times and reflect them in the study of utilization plans including undeveloped sections.
Roads around Minato Odori Avenue and Yokohama Culture Gymnasium
Kannai and Kangai-District will continue to establish large-scale facilities to realize "international industry-academia collaboration" and "sightseeing and attracting customers."
In the future, the roads around Minato Odori Avenue and Yokohama Culture Gymnasium Road, which runs through Kannai and Kangai-District, we will narrow down the pathways, expand the number of walkers and self-transfer spaces, and redevelop existing road spaces in light of roadside traffic conditions, thereby strengthening and expanding the network of safe, lively and comfortable walkers.
In addition, during maintenance, we will also consider the utilization of the widened sidewalk space while conducting social experiments.
