November, 2002

To the farmers

In order to continue agriculture in the city, it is necessary to coexist with the local people together with the conservation of the farmland. In particular, some residents are worried about spraying pesticides on farmland adjacent to and mixed with houses. In addition, when spraying pesticides, it is important to observe the prescribed purpose of use and usage methods for safe agricultural products.

Therefore, Yokohama City asks farmers to use the safe use of pesticides and consideration for neighboring residents more than ever before for the safety of pesticide spraying work and eliminating the anxiety of the residents. In addition, we ask citizen's everybody for understanding and cooperation.

Specific precautions for spraying pesticides

1.Let's try to minimize the scattering of pesticides outside the field.
(1) Spray at a time zone where there is little effect on the neighborhood.
(2) Consider the weather and wind direction.
(3) Use a pesticide with a shape that is as small as possible.
(4) Pay attention to the direction of the spray nozzle so that the pesticide is reduced.
(5) Cultivate crops and varieties that are resistant to pests that require less pesticide sprays near homes.
(6) Let's try to devise ways such as installing anti-medicine nets and hedges at the border with the house.

2.Observe the purpose of use, applied pesticides, number of times, and amount of pesticides, and spray in an appropriate manner.
(1) Ensure that the prescribed use of pesticides is the basis of safe agricultural products.
(2) Purchase the "pest weed control standard" and check the application standards for each crop.
(3) Be sure to check the label before use, and observe the dilution ratio, number of uses, and the time of use.
(4) Make only the amount of spray solution you need. Also, keep in mind the proper disposal of empty bottles and bags.
(5) Store and manage pesticides in key storage.

3. Let's try to reduce the number of pesticide spraying and amount of pesticides.
(1) Review the pest control of pesticides, and actively work on comprehensive control that combines bio-friendly and cultivated control, which is environmentally friendly.

  • Chemical control: Use of pheromone agents
  • Physical control: Utilization of coating materials, etc.
  • Biodefenses: Use of antibotanical plants such as natural enemies and marigold, and green manure crops
  • Cultivated control: Rotary crop, introduction of resistant varieties, etc.

4. When spraying pesticides, try to notify the neighboring residents in advance.
(1) Before spraying pesticides, try to inform neighbors on bulletin boards and flags.
(2) When spraying fertilizer, try to inform the neighbors of the contents.
(3) Be careful not to see if the windows of the adjacent house are open and laundry and futons are dry, and try to speak out.
(4) Let's promote smooth communication by informing the schedule and contents of farm work on bulletin boards.

5. Let's keep cultivation records and control records.
(1) It is customary to keep cultivation records and control records. Recording can help improve cultivation and control, as well as a proof of the safety of agricultural products.

6.Make sure to respond to the residents in good faith to gain an understanding of the necessary farming work.

Provision of information on farm work

Are residents worried because of lack of information on pesticides and agricultural work?
Therefore, we would like to ask the residents of information on agricultural work and pesticide spraying, so that they try to resolve anxiety.

In consideration of neighboring residents, there are cases where residents are notified by such means as shouting, setting up a flag, or putting out a signboard when spraying pesticides.
By installing a bulletin board with information on pesticide spraying along with the schedule of agricultural work, PR points of agricultural products, etc. in a place that is easier for residents to see, consideration for the residents will be transmitted more than ever before. .

This is an example of how to write an agricultural information bulletin board.
