I sent Bali Myna and Ougibato to New Caledonia

In 1989, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Yokohama municipal administration, the New Caledonia Southern State Government donated Kagu to Yokohama, endemic species of New Caledonia and endangered in Kagu, and the Southern State Government of New Caledonia toconservation and other rare birds. As part of this exchange, on January 23, Yokohama sent six Bali Myna and two giant beets to the Michel Corbason Zoo and Botanical Park in New Caledonia. I hope that these birds will live and breed in New Caledonia and serve as a bridge for friendship with Yokohama City.

I sent Bali Myna to Indonesia

Preservation and Research Center is engaged in breeding under the bred Bali Myna, which lives only in Bali, Indonesia and is threatened with extinction. In addition, since 2004, in cooperation with the government of the Republic of Indonesia, we have been supporting the wild return project implemented at the western Bali National Park in the habitat. On November 7, the 7th Bali Myna sent Preservation and Research Center Bali Myna, which was bred in Japan, to help return to the wild. The total number of birds sent so far has been 160.

The birds sent will be paired with Bali Myna, which is bred at the conservation facility in Indonesia, and their descendants will be released to the wild.
I am looking forward to seeing the children of Bali Myna who grew up in Yokohama fly around the forests of Bali.

Holding a science school

State of Science School

The Preservation and Research Center School of Science, which is held every summer, was held for three days from July 27 to 29, with a total of 31 participants participating.
This year we also had a chance to experience the DNA extraction experiment and also heard about the current situation in the wild and conservation's efforts under breeding while looking at rare animals such as Tapir, Bali Myna and Kagu.
Through this experience, I think you understood what kind of activities the normally closed Preservation and Research Center is doing to protect endangered species.

Spring in Japanese Night Heron

Photograph of Japanese Night Heron holding a twig of nest wood

Japanese Night Heron is a migratory bird flying to Japan for breeding in spring. As the number of habitats is decreasing and there is concern about extinction due to the decrease in the breeding grounds of satoyama, Preservation and Research Center is focusing on the bird conservation. In 2015, we succeeded in breeding under breeding for the first time in Japan, and chicks have been nesting for three consecutive years since then.
The two males who grew up in the first year still live only with their brothers because they don't have a good pairing partner. Nevertheless, around the end of March, when the breeding season begins, you will be able to see the twigs that serve as nesting materials carefully. Looking at that figure, I hope that a good partner can be found as soon as possible and lead to breeding.
