Two male grouses entered the park

On February 24, a male two-focused grouse entered the park from the Nasu Animal Kingdom. This male hatched at Ishikawa Zoo in 2019, and was exhibited last year in the Nasu Animal Kingdom to convey the current situation of grouse and conservation activities. Since I've just visited the park, there are some places where I'm a little restless, so I'm starting with getting used to the environment.
By the way, Preservation and Research Center introduced the first two Japanese grouse in March 2019, but for the past two years we have been investigating whether the hygiene management standards for raising grouse could be relaxed, and we have not been working on breeding. However, this year, we will pair with males who have come to the park and challenge breeding. In addition, the breeding method to be tackled this year is to develop a technology for returning the grouse to the wild, and to breed naturally with eggs by mothers and breeding chicks.
It has been suggested that it is important to create an environment where mothers can calm down in order to succeed in natural breeding, so we will start preparing little by little so that we can make good reports around September I want to go.

Moving Wrinkled Frog

Wrinkled Frog

In Preservation and Research Center, we are working on conservation outside the area of Wrinkled Frog produced in Yokohama since fiscal 2014. Since 2017, breeding under breeding has been successful, and the number has been steadily increasing.

On September 30, six individuals bred in Preservation and Research Center in 2018 were moved to Kanazawa Zoo in the same city for "dangerous dispersion." "Dangerous dispersion" means that breeding populations are distributed at multiple locations to prevent the risk of catastrophic due to illness or accident, and are commonly used in rare species.
On the day, a breeder at Kanazawa Zoo visited and took over the breeding method, etc., and moved safely.

Holding a science school

Photographs taking lectures at a science school

Every year, a science school held in summer was held for three days from July 26 to 28 this year, and 30 people participated.
This year, the Science School also conducted experiments to extract the DNA of penguins, introduced the business of Preservation and Research Center and toured animal houses.
"I was excited for the first time that DNA was extracted," "I understood the animals protected in Preservation and Research Center," and "I found that zoos are not only breeding but also breeding."
I hope that this participation will give you more interest in the rare animal conservation.
