On February 24, males of two grouse entered from Nasu Animal Kingdom. This male hatched at Ishikawa Zoo in 2019 and was exhibited last year in the Nasu Animal Kingdom to convey the current state of grouse and conservation activities. I've just visited the park, so there are some places where I feel a little restless, so I'm starting with getting used to the environment.
By the way, Preservation and Research Center introduced two grouses for the first time in March 2019, but for the past two years we have been investigating whether the hygiene standards for raising grouses could be eased. However, this year, we will finally pair with males who have visited the park and try breeding. In addition, the breeding method we are working on this year, we are planning natural breeding by mothers incubation and chicks with the aim of developing a technique to return grouses to the wild.
It has been suggested that it is important to create an environment where mothers can calm down in order to succeed in natural breeding, so we will start preparing little by little and make good reports around September.

Movement of Wrinkled Frog

Wrinkled Frog raised

In Preservation and Research Center, we have been working on conservation outside of the Wrinkled Frog produced in Yokohama since FY2014. Since 2017, breeding under breeding has also been successful, and the number has been steadily increasing.

Six animals bred in Preservation and Research Center on September 30 in 2018 were moved to Kanazawa Zoo in the same city for "dangerous dispersion". "Dangerous dispersion" refers to breeding populations in multiple locations in order to prevent the risk of disappearance due to illness or accidents, etc., and is generally performed in rare species.
On the day, the breeding staff at Kanazawa Zoo came to the office, took over the breeding method, etc., and moved safely.

Holding Science School

Every year, the science school, which is held in summer, was held for three days from July 26 to 28, and 30 people participated.
This year, the science school conducted experiments to extract penguin DNA, introduced Preservation and Research Center's business and toured animal houses.
Many comments were received, including "I was excited for the first time that DNA was extracted," "I knew well about animals protected by Preservation and Research Center," and "I found that zoos are not only bred but also breeding."
I hope that this participation will give you more attention to the rare animal conservation.
