What is "Water Day"?
In the Basic Law on Water Cycle (enforced in 2014), August 1 was designated as "Water Day", and a day to deepen understanding and interest in the importance of a wide and healthy water cycle (Mizu Junkan) was determined. In addition, one week from August 1 to 7 is "Water Week".
What is the Water Cycle (Mizu Junkan)?
This is a diagram showing how water circulates.
The water on the earth does not always stay in the same place as seawater or river water, but the energy of the sun evaporates seawater and the water on the ground surface, becomes clouds over the sky, and eventually becomes rain or snow. It circulates constantly, such as falling on the ground surface, flowing through water, sewers, and rivers to the sea. This series of flows is called "water circulation".
Water circulation (Mizu Junkan) "Water around Our Town-Let's Know the Water Cycle in Yokohama-"
We produce a water circulation awareness video that will help us think about the preciousness of the water we can use and the importance of the water cycle. The Water Works Bureau characters are Mapyon, the water environment character Daichan, and the river character Hamakawa are navigating how the water circulating around us changes its shape, such as clouds, rain, and rivers. Check it out!
※We also rent out this video. If you wish, please contact the River Planning Division (telephone 045-671-4215).
Please also read the Water Cycle Awareness Leaflet (A4, 3-fold)!
There is also a water circulation enlightenment leaflet (PDF: 933KB) that explains the water circulation. Please read it!
(When printing, it is completed by printing on both sides of A4 size paper with short side binding, and folding the water circulation picture inside and three.)
