September 10 is Sewerage Day.
Yokohama City Water Environment Character "Kaba no Dai-chan"
Why is it September 10th?
It's because there are many typhoons. In addition, September 10 is 220 days counting from the beginning of spring, and is called "Nyakuhatsuka". With the exception of rainwater, which is one of the major roles of the sewer, it was set on September 10 after the typhoon season of 220 (Nihikuhatsuka).
From when?
From 2001 (Heisei 13). The Ministry of Construction (currently the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism), which had been in charge of sewerage at that time in 1961, in order to promote the spread of sewerage in Japan (the diffusion rate at that time: 6%). The predecessor organization of the Japan Sewerage Association discussed and established it as "National Sewerage Promotion Day". Then, in 2001, the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the Old Sewerage Law, the name was changed to the current "Sewer Day".
