Environmental activities of elementary school students lead to environmental conservation overseas

Children's "Eco-Activity." Great Operation! What is it?

This is a project in which elementary school students engage in environmental activities during summer vacation. Companies support these efforts, and sponsorship funds are donated to overseas environmental conservation activities.

"Eco-Activity" for elementary school students

Aim: Thinking about environmental issues from familiar behavior in everyday life
Target: Elementary school students (4th grade, 5th grade)
Contents: Using the "Eco-Life Check Sheet" to take on various environmental actions, such as "eat seasonal foods, vegetables and fruits from Yokohama" and "using water bottles".
Period of activity: During summer vacation at elementary school

Corporate Support

Members of the Yokohama City Environmental Conservation Council and the Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry support and support the efforts of elementary school students.

Results of Initiatives

20,723 elementary school students in the city worked on various environmental activities using the "Eco-Life Check Sheet" during the summer vacation!
This initiative was supported by 73 companies and 4 organizations in the city, and 1.63 million yen was donated to environmental conservation activities in the Philippines.

A presentation ceremony was held at the representative school!

At the morning meeting of all schools at Kamikawai Elementary School in Asahi Ward, we presented letters of appreciation from the United Nations WFP Association and Yokohama City.

The results were reported at the "SDGs Future City / Environmental Picture Diary Exhibition 2019"!

A panel of the results of the efforts were exhibited and the results were reported to the visitors.

(Environmental Picture Diary is an effort to freely express what elementary school students think about environmental issues by combining pictures and text as free assignments during summer vacation.)

Support Details

The donations from members of the Yokohama City Environmental Conservation Council and the Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which support the efforts of elementary school students, was donated to tree-planting activities in Mindanao, Philippines through the United Nations Food Support Organization "UN WFP."
In Mindanao, located in the southern Philippines, various natural disasters occur frequently, many of which are deteriorating due to human problems such as illegal logging and poor drainage.
We support tree-planting activities to preserve the environment of Mindanao.
